As sadly expected, the Cubs are putting Willson Contreras on the Injured List, even before tomorrow’s scheduled MRI.

Everyone already knows that hammy is injured – possibly seriously – so Contreras is going to be out for a while. The best we can hope for is a return in late September.
In the meantime, Victor Caratini is your new starting Cubs catcher (could do a lot worse), and Taylor Davis takes over the back-up role. He won’t hit much, but he knows the staff and works well with them. He receives well from what I’ve seen (and what the limited data shows), and plays decent defense. All in all, much like with Caratini as the starter, you could do worse than having Davis as your back-up.
I do anticipate the Cubs looking for additional depth, though.
