The Brewers and Cardinals Won Late, Because I Hate Them

Chicago Cubs

Well, I don’t want to update the standings here only when there’s a good change for the Cubs, so I’ll note this morning that the lead shrank.

While the Cubs failed to win one late against the Reds, each of the Brewers and Cardinals did manage to win late (at home against the Rangers and Pirates, respectively), so things tightened a bit in the Central:

With the Brewers and Cardinals seemingly highly unlikely to lose multiple games this weekend, if that 2.5-ish-game buffer comforts you, then the Cubs are going to need to win a game or two this weekend in Cincinnati.

Seems unlikely, I know, given the recent history, but hey: wouldn’t it be so poetic if the Cubs’ first road series win in three months came in a FOUR-game set in Cincinnati? YOU CAN DO IT, GUYS!

Look at how happy the Brewers look. Winning games is fun. Motivation and such! (Also, Josh Hader blew another save on a dinger before the Brewers walked off, so at least there’s that.)
