Jason Heyward Scratched with Left Knee Inflammation

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs need to win tonight’s game against the Phillies, if they hope to (have a chance) to break their road-series woes tomorrow, but they’ll have to go at it without Jason Heyward, who was a late scratch with some left knee inflammation.

Here’s the news:

Obviously, we don’t have much to go on at this time, which is frustrating, but we’ll update you as soon as we learn more.

In the meantime, losing Heyward is a bit of a blow. Aside from the obvious hit the Cubs defense just took in the outfield (Schwarber-Happ-Castellanos from left to right is … not ideal), Heyward has been a positive at the plate all season long, including his time since the All-Star break: .283/.339/.453 (7 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers, and 2 stolen bases). Let’s hope this is nothing more than a nagging, short-term-type injury, because the Cubs’s offense is already without its All-Star catcher (Willson Contreras).
