Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 5, Giants 3 – August 20, 2019
The Chicago Cubs can win at home. But you already knew that.
Anthony Rizzo is on an absolute tear of late, homering twice in this one (that’s four in his last five games), and posting a perfect night at the plate overall. Nick Castellanos (who also homered) is still on a tear as a Cub. More or less, they were the offense in this one, despite lots and lots of missed opportunities. Sometimes you have to win anyway, and the Cubs did.
Cole Hamels managed a quality start in this one, giving up a solo homer and a two-run homer. That said, his command and velocity were still clearly off. Good on him for getting through six and all that, but here’s hoping the improvements continue on the mechanical side of things.
The bullpen cruised after Hamels departed, and, particularly in comparison to recent weeks, this was about as chill as a two-run win gets.
