Take that, mini-losing-streak!
The Cubs win one on the road with a couple two-run homers (Baez, Russell) accounting for most of the damage. It was a big night for Baez, in particular, who was great on D and went notched two doubles and a walk, in addition to the homer. He got thrown out twice on the bases, but, well, hey – can’t have it all.
Yu Darvish was fantastic tonight, allowing just the one home run on a cutter he got too high to Pete Alonso. Otherwise, he was what he’s been for a long time now: in the strike zone, and too nasty to string together much offense against without dingers. He did FINALLY give up a walk for the first time in over a month (yes, that really happened), but it worked out just fine. Perhaps he was not quite in the zone as much tonight.
Great, solid, comfortable win. On the road!
