Having heard Theo Epstein saying Anthony Rizzo’s current back issue is different than what he’s been managing previously to this point in his career, consider me unsurprised that it’s a longer-lasting injury than what we’ve seen before.
He is still out today, and sounds like he will be tomorrow, too:

I don’t like the way it sounds. It makes me nervous that Rizzo is already projecting he’ll be out tomorrow, which means he’s still pretty darn bothered by the back. At this point, the Cubs have clearly decided to play short until he returns, which, whatever. You can take it as a sign of their optimism that he’ll return after tomorrow, or a continued sign of their intransigence when it comes to using the IL for short-term position player injuries.
Anyway. Rizzo’s out again, in another big match-up against a tough righty. It’s a bummer, but I’d rather he sit out now and get it back to 100%.
