But he’s also getting into “legit baseball activities,” as Theo Epstein put it, which means he’s finally close to a rehab stint with AAA Iowa. Joe Maddon agrees:

The Iowa Cubs kick off their final regular season series this weekend in Iowa, so that’s when you’d like to see Contreras get a start on his rehab stint. That way, with the I-Cubs headed to their postseason, he could get in at least three or four games, if necessary, before returning to the big league team.
