A minor roster move before today’s game, as Cole Hamels had to return from the paternity list, which means the Cubs’ free reliever goes away.
Hamels is scheduled to pitch tomorrow, and James Norwood will go back to Iowa for their playoff clincher and then, presumably, the postseason run. He will come back up at some point in September to provide additional depth in the big league bullpen, but it’s not clear when he’ll get an actual shot to, you know, pitch. Despite being up several times this year, he’s accumulated just 1.0 inning of big league work. Meanwhile, he’ll just keep on striking out everyone in sight at Iowa.
