It was just a few innings of work at AAA last night, but I’m sure it was good to get back on the field for Willson Contreras, who has been out since early August with a strained hamstring.
The box for the next step in his recovery has been checked:
Willson Contreras out after three innings tonight in his first MLB Rehab game with the @IowaCubs. 0-for-1 with a HBP and a deep lineout to left. Looked like his normal, energetic self. Good night for him.

Ultimately, it could take about a week of games to get Contreras ready to re-join the big team, which means he’ll be there for a good chunk of the I-Cubs postseason. But it would have him lined up to return for a big series next weekend:
Catcher Willson Contreras will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Friday and could return to the Cubs next weekend in Milwaukee.
“I would say probably around a week or so,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said of Contreras’ projected rehab stint.https://t.co/yveROiNnMm pic.twitter.com/wHzSnmvzUq

In the meantime, hopefully Contreras and his teammates enjoy the experience:
