The slide that shook up Javy Baez in today’s game saw him get knocked in the head and neck by Orlando Arcia. Although that was lingering a bit after that, it turns out the worse injury was something we didn’t see at the time: a jammed left thumb that ultimately took him out of the game.
Good news, no break. Bad news, he might miss time:
Jammed left thumb for Javy Baez on that stolen base. Maddon said it locked up to the point where Javy was struggling to hold a bat, so they took him out of the game.

Javy said X-rays on left thumb were negative: "During the game my thumb was getting swollen so it was kind of hard to squeeze my glove. Joe told me to let him know and it kept getting worse every inning." Hopes to play Monday, but seems likely to get a day off.

Baez is just about the only guy who seems to have been an exception over the last couple years to the rule that if you see a guy get dinged, Joe Maddon will absolutely sit him down for at least a day. Still, I think Baez probably sits for at least a day this time around – he could probably use the rest anyway.
More tomorrow, I’m sure.
