Joe Maddon Remains “Very Optimistic” About His Future

Chicago Cubs

Joe Maddon did his weekly hit on 670 The Score with Laurence Holmes today, and he put on the brave face – well, that’s not even fair to say, since Maddon always has on his optimistic, positive face. Anyway, point being, even amid rampant informed speculation that this is his final week at the helm of the Cubs, he’s still evoking positivity.

Maddon still loves what he’s been doing, and the city in which he’s been doing it:

As for what comes next, Maddon, an impending free agent, is hopeful and is expecting a resolution soon:

It’s certainly not an ABSOLUTE ZERO CHANCE situation that Maddon returns on a new deal with the Cubs, and I think we all understand that it also is not a lock that whoever might replace him would be an “upgrade.” Instead, my gut just says that the natural progression of things has run its course, and the organization – in this area and in so many others – is simply going to want a fresh start.

We’ll see what happens over the next week. One thing I do expect is that the decision – one way or the other – will not take long.
