Enhanced Box Score: Pirates 9, Cubs 5 – September 26, 2019
Post-elimination, the Cubs dispensed with any of the drama attached to their previous eight losses, and this time just got right down to the business of pooping their pants.
Jose Quintana wrapped up a disappointing year by continuing a dismal September. It stinks, because he was quietly really good before this month. And now his numbers all look like garbage. More on that later.
The fill-in lineup scraped together some offense, and even mounted a bit of a comeback in the middle innings.
Dillon Maples did what he so often does in a game like this: tantalize with killer stuff in a clean inning with two strikeouts. Why do you do this to me, Dillon? WHY?!
Anyway, Cubs lost again to the Pirates. That’s a sweep. That’s nine losses in a row.
