The Chicago Cubs’ 2019 season is over, ending with a thud in the scorebook (sounds right), but with some laughs on the field (which was nice). We’ll still have plenty of offseason coverage as we do, but I’m content for this season to pass.
Jack Flaherty continues to be dominant out there, so I guess it’s for the better that this wasn’t some kind of do-or-die game for the Cubs. The bats weren’t doing much of anything.
The Cubs, I think, were trying to do Derek Holland a solid today by giving him one last chance to show he could still start before heading back into free agency (in a world where relievers have to face at least three batters next year … not good for LOOGYs). It did, uh, not go so well.
That was most of the damage, as the young guys took the ball from there and mostly held down the fort until closer Ben Zobrist was ready to go.
Speaking of which, I wonder if that’s the last we see of him, either with the Cubs or in MLB at all. Gonna miss that guy either way. Also that other guy.
