Scott Harris has long been seen as a future GM. He was an integral part of the Chicago Cubs’ rise and comes with the highest recommendations from Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. Skills-wise, he should be an excellent complement to Giants president of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi.

Harris, like Shiraz Rehman, Jared Porter, and Jason Parks in recent years before him, was an up-and-comer in the front office before he was plucked away for a promotion with another club. Good on him, but man, it’s more brain-drain from the Cubs organization.
The Cubs are still looking for a new head of their scouting department, and now also theoretically have plenty of room to make an outside addition into the higher ranks of the front office. Hopefully they’ve been searching around for some new up-and-comers.
