Given how things on the Nolan Arenado front continue to escalate to the point where a trade is being labeled as “inevitable” (now or at the Trade Deadline), a report about the Cardinals and Rockies being in talks has me mildly soiling my trousers.
Source: #STLCards, #Rockies have had preliminary talks on a Nolan Arenado trade. Latest story: https://t.co/eVzywH9Qiw @MLBNetwork @MLB

As you read in the piece, there’s a level of seriousness that has me mighty worried. There are specific names mentioned in the article, including recently-acquired pitching prospect Matthew Liberatore, infield prospect Nolan Gorman, and pitcher Dakota Hudson. Matt Carpenter could be included as a small salary offset for Arenado’s contract.
More credence to this report? When he was discussing Arenado yesterday on the radio, Bruce Levine mentioned the Cardinals in addition to the Cubs, and listed very specific names as possible parts of the deal – and it was very similar to this Morosi report. It makes you think these talks are very real.
It’s always been a long, long-shot that the Cubs could coordinate everything to land Arenado – maybe they’ve just been driving up the price on the Cardinals …
