The Brewers have already taken a mix-and-match, volume approach to their infield, and now they’re adding another useful piece to the group.
Free-agent infielder Brock Holt in agreement with #Brewers, pending physical, source tells The Athletic.

Holt, 31, has been a slightly above-average hitter the last two years with the Red Sox, pairing that with the ability to play solid defense at every single position outside of pitcher and catcher (particularly in the infield). He’s a really nice guy to have on the bench, and although he’s not single-handedly going to put the Brewers over the top or anything, this is a really good signing for them, especially after the Luis Urias injury.
No big splashes for the Brewers this offseason, but adding guys like Holt, Avisail Garcia, Jedd Gyorko, Eric Sogard, Justin Smoak, and Ryon Healy on cheap deals is not the worst approach in the world if you don’t have a lot of money to play with. They’ll still need their rotation and bullpen to surprise to the upside if they’re going to compete in 2020, but, hey, they’re certainly gonna have a really good bench.
