The Cardinals will always and forever be the Cubs biggest rival in my book – no doubt about it. But I also really hate the Brewers.
I hate them for making it tougher to win in 2007 and 2008. I hate them for stealing the division in 2018 and edging the Cubs out of the postseason entirely in 2019 (well, and the Mets, I guess). I hate them for complaining about cancelled and rescheduled games. I hate them for Ryan Braun’s existence. I hate them for lucking into Christian Yelich. I hate them for not having a more hatable manager. And most of all, I hate them for saying anything bad about Yu Darvish online, ever. Why do you hate the Brewers, boy and girls?
In case you couldn’t guess, the Brewers are coming to Sloan Park today to face Yu Darvish (in his spring debut) and the Chicago Cubs. This afternoon, manager David Ross is going back to his alternate lineup, which I refuse to call a “B-lineup,” because in a lot of ways a group with Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, and Kyle Schwarber is more fun to watch in the spring.
Victor Caratini is also behind the plate today, which is a good time to remind you that he effectively emerged as Yu Darvish’s personal catcher last season. And given the success of both players in 2019, you’ll probably see that relationship continue (despite a new manager leading the Cubs).
Game’s at 2:05. Go Cubs.
