I knew because of the nature of the event that Cubs Convention was likely going to get the ax, but it still really stings to see that it’s happened.
The Chicago Tribune has the scoop:
The 2021 Cubs Convention is the latest event to be canceled due to COVID-19.
“When we thought about producing an event of this size and magnitude in a pandemic environment, it was just not practical given the constraints of unknown hotel constrictions.” https://t.co/X16Q3Vn1JJ

Because of the advanced planning that goes into the event, which annually gathers at a downtown Chicago hotel and sends proceeds to Cubs Charities, the decision on whether to proceed or cancel had to come early. Not knowing what the world is going to look like in January meant that it was more or less impossible to plan to gather thousands of people together in a hotel. Even if it were permissible, attendance would’ve been crushed.
The event is one of my favorite times of the year, gathering together with other Cubs nuts, anticipating the season, getting angry about Cubs BS, having beers, and on and on. This sucks. COVID-19 sucks.
