When the Cubs released their lineup earlier today, we were thrilled to see Anthony Rizzo’s back had heeled up enough to make his first and only legitimate exhibition appearance of Summer Camp. But just as we got one Cubs slugger back, we lost another.
Here’s the news:
"If today were a regular season game, [Bryant] would be in there," Ross said.

The good news, of course, is that Bryant would be in there if this were the regular season and that he’s also still available off the bench. So perhaps this really is just an abundance of caution situation. Then again, with so few opportunities to prepare before the season, missing even this one game stings.
I’m not yet sure how the lineup will be rearranged, but I’ll update this post as soon as we know.
The Cubs have an off-day tomorrow before kicking off the regular season on Friday against Milwaukee.
UPDATE: David Bote is covering 3B, Kyle Schwarber is moving to DH, Ian Happ is moving to left field, and Albert Almora has come in to play center.
