You know why I love baseball? There’s so much of it. After winning last night’s season-opener against the Brewers, the Cubs are back at it again today with a 12:05 start at Wrigley Field.
Yu Darvish is taking the mound in his 2020 debut, and he’ll throw to his personal catcher, Victor Caratini, as expected. But thanks to the designated hitter, the Cubs are able to keep Willson Contreras’ bat in the lineup, which is largely identical to yesterday’s group, with the exception of Jason Kipnis subbing in for Nico Hoerner. The Cubs couldn’t come up with much offense against Brandon Woodruff, so hopefully they’re a little luckier against Corbin Burnes.
Burnes, by the way, also throws hard and has reportedly looked good throughout camp. I mentioned this in the series preview, but it sure feels like we’ll have a binary outcome today: The Cubs will either hit a ton of homers or strike out a whole lot.
For what it’s worth, Javy Baez is 1-7 with 4Ks against Burnes, while Kyle Schwarber is 2-4 with 2 walks and a homer.
Let’s go, Cubs!
