And the Cubs take the first series of the year! That feels good to say.
Tyler Chatwood looked fantastic today. You can see the results well enough (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 ER, 8 K), but I’m telling you from watching, he was sharp. He commanded every pitch well, and the cutter (it was an Arrieta-esque slutter, actually) was baffling the Brewers. Statcast had him throwing it 27 times and netting six swinging strikes and five called strikes on it.
Two of the walks weren’t even wild at all – they had missed strike calls. It was a pretty good zone today overall, I’m just saying that you see the walks from Chatwood and you think maybe he was wild. Not so. The second of those walks was followed by a couple soft hits that netted the Brewers their only run off of Chatwood in his six innings of work. What a great day.
The Cubs’ offense was clicking today when anyone not named Eric Lauer was in the game. That guy is gonna be a problem. But whateves. Rest of the day, bats were ON.
