Maybe in a different year, you don’t immediately know how important an 8th inning insurance run is, taking a two-run lead to a three-run lead. But man, this year, I think all of us INSTANTLY knew how enormous that Willson Contreras homer was last night, and none of us were surprised that it wound up being the difference in the game.
The fun thing about a monster blast like that is that it isn’t unique for Contreras this year, who was slapping the crap out of the ball in Summer Camp, and carried it forward to the season.
Check out this ELL-OH-ELL stat that Brad shared, and I added a bit to:
Adding to that, yes, Willson's hard contact rate is tops in baseball. He is absolutely slapping the crap out of the ball. pic.twitter.com/onvHLe4j94

I can’t wait until we have some more data to really dig in on what Contreras is doing this year, because obviously he won’t stay at THIS level for long. But so far, so very good.
