Even if you’re in good shape, I’m telling you: if you sprinted, all out, from first base to home, you would be momentarily exhausted. So I’ll hear no shots at my man, Victor Caratini!
A fun moment in last night’s game, as Kris Bryant sent one to the left center gap with Caratini on first. Because there were two outs, even a man of modest speed like Caratini could immediately be thinking about going first to third. But when the ball got away for just a moment, Caratini clicked on the hyperdrive and decided to use up every last bit he had to score:

Sometimes you just feel the need to catch an entire game and then score from 1st on a double to the gap. pic.twitter.com/17y0EAcGaG

I say all credit to Caratini, seriously. That ball only barely got away, and I think that’s pretty impressive that he made it first to home on that one. I was definitely not expecting it live.
Also, although we joke about pianos and such, Caratini isn’t *THAT* slow: his sprint speed at Statcast is in the 20th percentile, so he’s quite a bit below average, but not hilariously so. There were like 50 regulars last year who rated as slower than Caratini.
Take a breather, Vic. You earned it.
