It’s not hyperbole to say today could be Tyler Chatwood’s last scheduled start in a Cubs uniform. I tend to doubt it (and certainly hope not), but if he gets blown up for the third consecutive time with Jose Quintana back and Adbert Alzolay knocking down the door, he could end up in the bullpen the rest of the way. But seeing as I think this team’s ceiling is higher with Chatwood in the rotation, I certainly hope that’s not the case. More immediately, the Cubs really need to win this game, because they have been sucking it up lately. Let’s just be honest.
The trade for Jose Martinez did spike me with a jolt of optimism and energy, but the wins have to happen now. There’s not much season left. Let’s go, Cubs. Come on.
