Bummer news for an old friend – one of our favorite old friends – and I hope that all is well with Dexter Fowler.
The Cardinals outfielder is going to be out for a while under unique circumstances:
#stlcards put Fowler on IL because he's taking medication that may compromise his immune system, and due to COVID-19 precautions they want to be careful. He'll be out for a couple of weeks. Updates coming here: https://t.co/5GTZ80CMHo #Cardinals

Fowler, 34, has actually hit very well for the Cardinals this year, but has been battling a stomach issue that now has him on medication that could compromise his immune system. That puts him at a higher COVID-19 risk, so the Cardinals are doing the safe thing and putting him on the IL. Really sucks for Fowler – and it ain’t great for the Cardinals’ depth as they try to play 33 games in the next 26 days – but it seems like the safe thing to do.
The IL placement will mean Fowler misses this weekend’s five-game set with the Cubs, the last time the teams will meet this year.
