The Cubs needed to get a good start out of someone not named Yu Darvish or Kyle Hendricks, so tonight’s outing by Alec Mills was an extremely welcomed sight. That it wound up turning into a shutout together with the bullpen is just gravy.
The wind howling in definitely helped at times, but Mills was mostly executing well. Duane Underwood, Jr. got his chance at a medium-leverage inning, and came out with spotty control, but got through the 7th. Ryan Tepera was great in the 8th, and
Offensively, the Cubs didn’t have a ton going either, but they got two very big hits of a very specific type:
