In case you missed the news, the Cubs left fielder for the night, Cameron Maybin, was recently scratched and replaced in the lineup by Ildemaro Vargas by way of several position changes. At first all we had heard was that Maybin was feeling “ill,” which obviously makes your brain go immediately to COVID-19, but now we have a little more detail and that doesn’t seem to be the case.
It just sounds like a simple stomach bug:
Some updates from Ross:
• "Just a day off" for Rizzo
• Maybin dealing with stomach bug. Started last night, still under weather today
• Kipnis is fine, just dealing with "bumps and bruises." Could play, if needed, but another day off— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) September 12, 2020
Glad to hear it.
Beyond that it’s just a regular day of rest for Anthony Rizzo, which we suspected, and as for Jason Kipnis, we weren’t crazy. He is dealing with “bumps and bruises,” which is evidently why he hasn’t started at second base since Tuesday, but he is available as needed. Hopefully, he continues to get some rest, because he can be a big part of their roster in October if he’s healthy.
