The five-game winning streak is over. All good things must end and such.
Alec Mills looked really solid again tonight overall, though he wore down a bit there at the end on the third time through. Obviously he’s not a threat to throw a no-hitter every time out there, but he once again looked like a serviceable starting pitcher, even on a playoff-caliber team. You’ll take it.
Things obviously fell way apart after Mills’ departure, with lefty Josh Osich not making a strong case to stick in the pen when the other lefties are available, and Duane Underwood giving up a lotta hard contact in a situation that demanded strikeouts. It was nice to see Rex Brothers look nasty as heck in striking out the side, but in a game like this, how much does it tell you?
In any case, the blowout score bothers me a lot less on the Twins side than on the Cubs’ side. They’ve now scored just three runs in their last 24 innings, and one of those came from the freebie extra-innings runner.
