It wouldn’t be a front office hiring season without long-time Chicago Cubs exec Jason McLeod getting an interview or two.
Now the Cubs Senior VP of Player Personnel – a more explicit third-man-in-charge job on the big league side after last year’s restructuring – McLeod is reportedly among the candidates for the Angels open GM position, and has already interviewed.

The Angels also had interest in talking to the Cubs VP of Scouting Dan Kantrovitz, but he reportedly decided to stay with the Cubs.
ESPN reports that McLeod is among seven candidates for the job, together with – among others – former Cubs exec, and current Diamondbacks AGM, Jared Porter. Another DBacks AGM who originally came from the Theo Epstein group in Boston, Amiel Sawdaye, is also a candidate. I mention Porter and Sawdaye because they would conceivably be candidates to join the Cubs front office in the event of a restructuring over the next year that opened up a promotion path. The DBacks have quietly been exceptional on the scouting and development side the last few years.
