I was really hoping David Ross was going to get some recognition for what he accomplished as a manager this year.
Not only did his team win the NL Central – hey, that matters! – but you’re talking about the one club in all of baseball that had no positive tests for COVID-19 all year. No, that doesn’t all fall to the manager, but he sets the tone. Certainly, Ross created an environment where the players could be safe and succeed. He deserves credit for that.
The 2020 season was not, in so many ways, what we were looking for the Cubs to be. But I really don’t think I can look at the year and say that too many of the failings were on the rookie manager. It was a good debut. More to come for Ross and the Cubs.
