Earlier this week, breakout Tampa Bay Rays star Randy Arozarena was placed into custody in Mexico following an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-wife and her father. Per reports, Arozarena attempted to take his daughter with him, and authorities were investigating whether that was lawful given the circumstances.
After a 48-hour hold, pending that investigation, Arozarena has reportedly been released with no charges. Arozarena’s attorney says there was not enough evidence to proceed further.
Most importantly here, you hope that the families involved are able to move forward in a way that’s best for any children involved. Beyond that, I don’t want to say too much, because we know that domestic cases are not always dropped because absolutely nothing happened. Sometimes, it’s just way more complicated than that.
In any case, I do anticipate that MLB will investigate on its own authority under the league’s domestic violence policy, and come to its best determination on what happened. From there, it’s possible that there will be consequences for Arozarena, or it’s possible that the league will determine he did nothing wrong.
