ESPN today announced its initial slate of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball games for the 2021 season, and the Chicago Cubs make two appearances, on April 18 against the Braves, and on May 16 against the Cardinals.
Most of the second half of the season is yet unannounced, as obviously they’ll want to see how things play out:
For now, I’m very fine with this. On the one hand, I like to see the Cubs getting some national games so that fans who can’t otherwise watch them regularly will get to see them. On the other hand, the production of Sunday Night Baseball in recent years has been such that, if you’re more than a very casual Cubs fan, it can be kinda hacky and grating.
Note that all of this is subject to the 2021 season actually playing out as scheduled, which is still very much a matter of upcoming negotiation.
