Jed Hoyer Indicates Cubs Still Looking to Add to Roster

Chicago Cubs

You can expect, barring a significant trade, the Cubs’ roster mostly looks now like it’ll look when Spring Training opens up next week.

But there will be some other additions from here, according to team president Jed Hoyer:

The best guess here is that we’ll see the Cubs pick up a veteran starting pitcher from the pool we’ve been discussing, and it’ll probably be whichever pitcher is willing to take a minor league deal (or an extremely low-cost big league deal). Will either Jake Arrieta or Jeff Samardzija fall into that group? Tough to say. A whole lotta teams are still looking to add pitching.

Elsewhere, the Cubs could still stand to add another infielder in my view, and a guy like Brad Miller would make plenty of sense, even if primarily to provide the Cubs additional cover *IF* they were to trade Kris Bryant and/or *IF* they were to want Nico Hoerner to start the season at AAA Iowa.

Stay tuned this week.
