Happy Jake Day!
It’s a shame today’s tilt against the Diamondbacks won’t be televised (we’re back on the air tomorrow), because Jake Arrieta is making his first start in a Cubs uniform since 2017. Although Arrieta isn’t necessarily part of the Cubs long-term plans beyond 2021, he is a key piece of the puzzle this season. Getting him to Opening Day healthy (and with his mechanics just right) can go a long way to defending the NL Central crown.
But Arrieta isn’t the only draw of the day, Brett’s favorite prospect, Miguel Amaya, draws the start at DH, which is fun. Amaya has a big test awaiting him at Double-A this season, but if he passes and possibly even progresses to Triple-A, a promotion to The Show in 2022 is real possibility.
