I thought folks would want to know that Jon Lester’s surgery to remove a parathyroid gland was a success, and the hope is that it will improve the former Cubs’ energy level going forward.
More from Lester, who has returned to Nationals camp, and explained how the thyroid issue impacted him last year with the Cubs:
Jon Lester is talking to reporters for the first time since surgery last week. He said he had wanted to address thyroid issues "for a while." He said he had previously chalked up the lethargy to getting older. "This last yr was was pretty tough for me as far as energy level."

Interesting from Lester: Talked about how he sweated a lot on the mound, said may have been tied to the parathyroid issue. Said he couldn't hold electrolytes, body would fatigue more quickly. Hopes he may sweat less (or at least hold electrolytes better) post-surgery.

Jon Lester, sporting a small scar on his neck following thyroid surgery, says the fatigue issue had been going on "for a while," including last season with Cubs. Started doing research, had sense it was thyroid. Ideally would've had surgery over winter but COVID delayed things.

I’m just glad to see that he’s gotten this addressed successfully, and I hope he sees a resurgence from here.
