Okay, today is a great day for some baseball.
Think about how much we’ve got to look forward to: (1) The Cubs are hosting the Brewers at Sloan Park and it’s airing on Marquee, (2) it’s Jake Arrieta Day (against Brandon Woodruff, no less), (3) there are a bunch of regulars in both lineups, and (4) Pat Hughes is making his TV broadcast debut.
Oh, and it’s Friday! Who doesn’t love Friday afternoon baseball? It’s the best.
The Cubs lineup is a pretty typical spring mix of starters and battlers, but I will say we’ve seen a lot more of Matt Duffy and Eric Sogard lately (though they each got a late start, so no surprises there). We’re also getting another look at P.J. Higgins behind the plate, and although he’s likely to be the third catcher stashed away at Triple-A in case of emergency, it is worth remember that the Cubs primary backup, Austin Romine, is dealing with a knee injury at the moment. So it’s as important as ever for Higgins to get in as much work as possible with the big league staff.
Go Cubs.
