Later this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs will play host to the Cincinnati Reds at Sloan Park. Alec Mills will take the mound for Chicago in his fourth Cactus League start of the spring, more or less with a rotation spot already shored up for at least the early part of the year (though the only true “locks” are Kyle Hendricks, Zach Davies, and Jake Arrieta, it’s looking increasingly clear that Trevor Williams and Alec Mills are locked in as the 4 and 5).
Meanwhile, Tyler Mahle will pitch for the Reds, though it’ll be just his second spring start of the year. He’s not hurt and the Reds say nothing is otherwise wrong with him, but he has been delayed this month. I guess there are any number of explanations – I’m just pointing it out in case it becomes something to follow.
The Reds lineup today features two Kyles and three Tylers. Just mentioning it.
