Well this is awful. An injury for Dexter Fowler that looked like a very serious certain kind of injury was later revealed to be not actually all that serious, and we fans of the former beloved Cubs outfielder breathed a sigh of relief.
Turns out that relief was just flat wrong:
Fowler will have surgery and miss the rest of the season.

The injury was what it looked like initially, which really sucks. Fowler, 35, was trying to establish himself as a solid veteran bench option for the Angels after a trade from the Cardinals. Now his season is over.
All the best on a successful surgery, and then a rehab process that could at least leave him in position to compete for a bench job at Spring Training next year for some club.
If you didn’t see on Friday night, Fowler had to be carted off the field after this play at second base:

This is the play where Dexter Fowler hurt himself. He was on the ground for several minutes before being taken off on a cart.
