It was really kind of the Cubs to drop yesterday’s opener against the Braves, so that both teams can be even in the standings with three games left in the series. But now that they’re all tied up, the Cubs can go ahead and win out.
Trevor Williams is taking the ball for Chicago today, and he’s been a pretty serviceable back-end starter this year. I know he fell apart in Pittsburgh, but take a look at his other three starts, including one against this very Braves team:
4/05 vs. MIL: 6.0 IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 6Ks
4/11 @PIT: 3.1 IP, 10H, 5ER, 2BB, 3Ks
4/17 vs. ATL: 5.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 3BB, 4Ks
4/22 vs. NYM: 5.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 1BB, 6Ks
He’s always got more strikeouts than walks, he’s allowed two or fewer runs (and has gone at least 5.0 IP) in three of his four starts, and he’s got a 50% ground ball rate. All things considered, that’s pretty good for a fourth starter. Let’s see if he can keep it up tonight.
