The Cubs began this series with a chance to break back even at .500. But even if they win tonight, they’ll be three games below that mark. If they lose, they’ll be five games under .500 for the first time since April of 2019! Rough waters, my friends, very rough waters.
But this season isn’t “over” yet. And regardless of where we’re headed, Adbert Alzolay will be a big part of the team’s future. So, yeah, I’m very excited to see him back out on the mound for the Cubs tonight, following a relatively brief, but successful outing against the Brewers: 4.2 IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 7Ks.
Indeed, he’s made three starts this season – all against Milwaukee – so far allowing just 9 hits and 5 walks against 17Ks. But my favorite part is his average fastball velocity just over 94 MPH. This is the kind of guy the Cubs could use in their rotation long-term and he’s already here.
If you’re searching for a reason to watch after this rough streak, that’s it. Go Cubs.
