With two outs and Kyle Hendricks at the plate and Jake Marisnick at third base, Ildemaro Vargas decided to steal second base. The Dodgers were giving it to him, so why not? It probably wouldn’t matter, what with Hendricks at the plate, but hey, at least it takes away a force play, right?
NOPE. It was much better than that. Because right after, Dodgers pitcher Dennis Santana uncorked a wild one to score Jake Marisnick from third, and then Vargas chugged around third to score on the throw. Two runs on one wild pitch:
