Happy Jake Day! (It’s been a while).
Jake Arrieta has been on the injured list since the end of April with a cut on this thumb, but he returns to action tonight against the Tigers. And we’re glad to have him back.
So far this season, Arrieta has been somewhat refreshingly/surprisingly consistent, going 5.0 or more innings in all of his starts (except for the blowup in Cincinnati, where his thumb injury and the ballpark/matchup were some pretty big, idiosyncratic factors). He’s struck out 28 batters in 31.1 IP so far.
He’s no longer a star, perhaps, but he seems to almost always give the Cubs a shot to win when he’s on the mound. And that’s all you can ask for from a guy like him at this point in his career.
Other than that, Nico Hoerner is back, Kris Bryant is healthy and in the outfield, and David Bote is your DH. Go Cubs.
