Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Tigers (3:10 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs

When Trevor Williams was blown up in Cincinnati (2.2 IP, 6H, 6ER, 3HR, 4BB, 2Ks), I wasn’t particularly concerned. Yeah that was a really, really bad game, but Cincinnati is a terrible place to pitch and the Reds offense has been among the top-3 offenses against right-handed pitching all season. It’s gonna happen, especially to the guy who’s basically the team’s fifth starter.

But when he followed that up with another short outing – at home – against the Pirates, who claim no such offensive dominance, well, then you hope it’s the beginning of a trend: 4.0 IP, 5H, 2ER, 1HR, 2BB, 6Ks. That’s not quite a meltdown, mind you, but Williams has now allowed 10 earned runs on 8 walks and 5 HRs in his last 11.2 IP. We know he can be better that that – we’ve seen it this year – so hopefully a bottom-10 offense like the Tigers in a ballpark like Comerica is just what he needs to settle back in.

And, hey, a win gets the Cubs back to .500 and claims the series. So … let’s do it.
