Chicago Cubs Lineup: No Javy Baez or Anthony Rizzo vs. Max Scherzer

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have already guaranteed themselves at least a series split in this four-game series against the Nationals, but they’ll go for the win tonight. Unfortunately, they’ll do it without Anthony Rizzo, who is expectedly getting a day off after unexpectedly coming out of the game yesterday, and Javy Baez (who may just be getting a day off against a very tough righty?). Lineup follows.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

1. Joc Pederson, LF
2. Kris Bryant, 1B
3. Ian Happ, CF
4. Willson Contreras, C
5. David Bote, 3B
6. Jason Heyward, RF
7. Eric Sogard, SS
8. Nico Hoerner, 2B
9. Jake Arrieta, P

That tough righty the Cubs are facing tonight? Yeah, that’d be Max Scherzer. And to that end, I’m not surprised to see Eric Sogard in the lineup or Pederson/Happ moving way up. I do wonder whether Nico Hoerner might’ve been better suited for short in Baez’s absence with Sogard at 2B, but whatever. Not a huge deal.

Kris Bryant is continuing his tour around the diamond tonight, making his second start at first base this season (his fifth starting position of the year). Jake Arrieta bats last and that’s the ballgame. Good luck against Scherzer, gents. He’s a tough one (2.10 ERA, 2.56 FIP this season).

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:40 CT).
