The Cubs (21-20) have never been more than 2 games over .500 this season, but they’re looking to match that high tonight at Wrigley Field. Unfortunately, they’ll have to do so against Max Scherzer and without Anthony Rizzo or Javy Baez.
It is Jake Day, however, as Arrieta is set to make his second start since coming off the injured list on May 14th. His last outing went well (6.0 IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB, 1K), but the Tigers are not as strong of an offense as the Nationals overall (they are almost identical against right-handed pitching though, so …). How fun would Jake v. Scherzer have been in 2015 or 2016?
Tonight is the 12th matchup between Cy Young starters at Wrigley Field, and the 1st since Maddux vs. Clemens in '06.
