The Cubs kick off their brutal “June” stretch with a win on the last day in May against the best team in the National League. And The Little Boy and I got to see and hear it – the explosion at Wrigley Field for the big moments. Man I’ve missed that so much. The crowd was so hyped.
Who do you tout after a game like that?! I mean, there are two fill-in guys who just BALLED out and I want to give them both all the love. Kohl Stewart was called up to fill in for Trevor Williams, and threw five beautiful, groundball-heavy innings against one of the best teams in baseball on a windy day. Patrick Wisdom has been up to fill in for, well, lots of guys, and he had three hits, including TWO homers.
The Cubs also got TWO homers from Javy Báez. And a homer and a triple from Kris Bryant. So many great performances today.
That includes Keegan Thompson, too, who came on in relief of Franklin. Thompson *finally* gave up a run, but hey, if you’re gonna give up a run eventually (and you probably are), having it come on an inconsequential monster homer by Fernando Tatis Jr. is probably a good way to do it.
And, of course, Andrew Chafin and Tommy Nance were great, too, just to wrap things up. What a win.
