The Chicago Cubs have already swept the Mets and the Dodgers. And today, they’ll go for a sweep of the Padres.
It’s kind of hard to believe, given where this season started, but this team just loves to battle. Win or lose today, they’ve already did what they had to against a very tough team. I’m proud of them …. But I’m also greedy (and there is a LOT of tough baseball still ahead this month), so let’s get that win, eh?
Adbert Alzolay is on the mound for the Cubs today, coming off a solid start against a tough Reds team: 5.2 IP, 5H, 0ER, 3BB, 6Ks. After facing the Brewers three straight times to start the season, he’s been on a bit of a roll, with 34 strikeouts and just 5 walks over his last 34.2 IP (3.12 ERA). His 47.9% groundball rate during that stretch has been nice to see, but he has allowed some hard contact and too many barrels (9 in six games for a 9.5 barrel%, league average for starters is 8%). So let’s look for him to limit the hard stuff today and keep that command pristine.
The Cubs will be without Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras today (well, them, and also Nico Hoerner, Matt Duffy, Jake Marisnick, Jason Heyward, and David Bote) both of whom are taking regular rest, and the Padres will be without Fernando Tatis Jr. Who’s bench will come out on top? Stay tuned to find out on this week’s episode of CUBS BASEBALL.
Not really sure what I was going for with that 90s TV show announcer bit. And now I’m just trying to cover up a bad joke by rambling on, when I could just delete it. Okay, bye. Go Cubs.
