I hope you’ve had some coffee, because this one isn’t starting until after 9:00pm CT, which means it’s not likely finishing until after midnight (Fiesta Forever and such).
We’ve already discussed tonight’s Padres starter, left-hander Ryan Weathers, in the lineup post, so let’s turn our attention to Adbert Alzolay for now.
Like Weathers with the Cubs, Alzolay’s last start came against these very Padres less than a week ago. Impressively, he held one of the best offenses in MLB to just 1 earned run on 3 hits and 1 walk against 7 strikeouts over 5.0 innings. But despite the successful results, I do remember him missing his spot fairly often. More specifically, it was almost as if he had no command in one moment and then pristine command the next (and that’s not actually unusual for him so far). It’s acceptable given his station, development, and results, mind you, I’m just planning to look out for that tonight to see if it continues.
Along the same lines, Alzolay went a little more fastball heavy than normal in his last start, so I wonder if we’ll see him switch back to the slider to give San Diego a different look.
Okay, that’s it for now. Go Cubs. Let’s win tonight so we can stay undefeated against the Padres for one more day.
