The Cubs dropped the opener in New York last night. And unfortunately, that was probably the most winnable game of the series in terms of pitching matchups. Oh, well. They’ll have to beat a trio of dominant Mets starters if they want to win this four-gamer, starting tonight with righty Taijuan Walker. Here’s David Ross lineup for Game 2.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Joc Pederson, LF
2. Kris Bryant, 3B
3. Javy Baez, SS
4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
5. Willson Contreras, C
6. Ian Happ, CF
7. Jason Heyward, RF
8. Sergio Alcantara, 2B
9. Alec Mills, P
For the 50th time this season (it always feels good to type) … JAVY BAEZ IS BACK IN THE STARTING LINEUP!
And this time, it’s not at the expense of Sergio Alcantara, who gets the start at second base over Eric Sogard. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo round out the infield group, which means that Patrick Wisdom is getting a night off (he might get the night off tomorrow against deGrom, too, before coming back against the less-strikeout-happy Marcus Stroman).
Meanwhile, the Cubs original outfield – Pederson, Happ, Heyward – is back, with the former leading off as he does. And Willson Contreras is behind the plate.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:10 CT).
