Ooooh Jacob deGrom I’m so0o0o0o scared.
Whatever. The Cubs have Robert Stock on the mound, so I’m pretty sure this game is already in the bag. Here’s David Ross’ lineup for Game 3 in New York. You might even recognize some of these players.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
1. Joc Pederson, LF
2. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
3. Javy Baez, SS
4. Ian Happ, CF
5. Patrick Wisdom, 3B
6. Rafael Ortega, RF
7. Eric Sogard, 2B
8. Jose Lobaton, C
9. Robert Stock, P
Heh. Imagine showing yourself this lineup back on Opening Day.
In all seriousness, it’s not a terrible idea to sort of punt this game (I know, I know, it sounds bad). But deGrom has been absolutely electric this season, Kris Bryant is already out with a hand injury, Robert Stock is starting for Chicago, and the Cubs still lack the diversity Matt Duffy and Nico Hoerner brought to the lineup.
So, yeah, you might as well let Willson Contreras rest (in favor of Jose Lobaton) and you might as well get starts for Rafael Ortega and Eric Sogard. I genuinely hope this group surprises tonight (that’d be a classic game), but I think the bigger win would be returning Contreras *and* Bryant back to the lineup tomorrow, healthy and ready to give it another go against the Mets. That’s just the reality of this game.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (6:10 CT).
